‘There was an enormous amount of frustration surrounding Kevin from everyone within the management team and it was a huge issue,’ said Downton talking of the time he travelled to Sydney at the start of this year ahead of the final Ashes Test.
‘Certainly it was frustrating watching his ‘this is the way I play’ attitude. Michael Clarke played him almost like a schoolboy. When I talked to Alastair Cook and the management there was a feeling of ‘is he really fighting this out?’
‘I watched every ball of the Sydney Test and I’d never seen anyone as disinterested or distracted on a cricket field,’ said Downton at the Kia Oval in an interview with the BBC’s Test Match Special. ‘I thought it was strange so I talked to management and senior players and I couldn’t find one supporter of him.
‘I spent the next three weeks talking to other people and it became clear that this would be in the best interests of English cricket. It was a no-brainer. Both myself and others wanted people who were truly focused on playing for England.
‘The accusations made were that he had too many agendas and was not a hundred per cent focused on England. That was unanimous and there was a strong feeling within the dressing room and in the management that we wouldn’t be able to grow until we made the decision to move on.’

All these comments were made by Downtown were wrong and now he and ECB have been made to apologise. I certainly think that Kevin Pietersen is a great person to have in your dressing room. Now recently without KP England has again lost that too beaten by sri lanka on their home turf.
It makes you feel that KP was just a bunny for the Ashes rout in Australia.
